The Pamplin Media Group’s eastside sports department is looking for players to join a “play for fun” fantasy football league this fall. Resort hosts Art Skipper golf tourney

The Resort at the Mountain hosts the Art Skipper Jr. Memorial golf tournament at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. Entry is $100 per golf or $400 for a foursome. The entry includes a cart and admission to the awards barbecue. Tickets for the awards dinner only are also available for $35. Prizes will be awarded for skills competitions such as long drive, closest to the pin and putting.

Proceeds from the event benefit the No Pioneer Left Behind program. The entry deadline is Sept. 1. For more information, call the Sandy High athletic office at 503-668-8011, ext. 7114.

Thorns settle for a scoreless draw

The Western New York Flash held a 14-7 edge in shots taken Saturday, but the Timbers back line held them out of the net to earn a 0-0 draw. Thorns goalkeeper Katrina LeBlanc made 10 saves.

The tie led Western New York, Portland and Sky Blue in a three-way tie for second place with 35 points in the National Women’s Soccer League with one match left in the regular season. Portland plays at Seattle at 8 p.m. Saturday.

FC Kansas City (11-5-5) can secure the regular-season title with a tie or a win against Chicago on Sunday.
