Football team challenges Huskies before falling late

North Marion comes up with a late goal-line stand to close out Estacada 28-14

by: ESTACADA NEWS: PARKER LEE - Estacada coach Andy Mott addresses his team during a timeout. Estacada’s football took pushed North Marion to the limit Friday night before falling 28-14.

Trailing 21-14 late in the game, the Rangers were driving for the tying touchdown before stalling out on a 4th-and-goal from the 3-yard line.

North Marion (5-2) raced to a 14-0 first-quarter lead only to see Estacada tie the game heading into the locker room with a pair of sustained scoring drives that ended with short touchdown runs by Alex Barstad and Brandon Beck.

“Getting down 14-nothing and rallying back, we were pretty fired up coming out for the second half,” Estacada coach Andy Mott said.

The game was originally scheduled for Thursday night, but had to be pushed back 24 hours when the officiating crew failed to show up for the original date.

“You’re getting ready to play a game, and that definitely threw us a curveball, but it was easy enough to go ahead and play it Friday night instead,” Mott said.

Estacada (1-6) travels to Milwaukie to take on traditional Tri-Valley power LaSalle Prep (2-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.

“They’re definitely an athletic team, but we’re expecting it to be a great game,” Mott said.
