The Estacada boys earn a top-10 finish at the 4A state meet

EUGENE — Estacada junior Tori Johnson found her way to the awards stand three times at last weekend’s 4A state track meet.

Johnson started her meet by tying for fourth place in the high jump on Friday with a 5-foot clearance before returning to the track on Saturday with fifth-place efforts in the 100-and 200-meter races.

The 100 final saw the top two finishers Kerissa and Venessa D’Arpino each break 4A meet records.

Estacada teammate Sarah Davies added three more points with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump. She stretched out to 33-feet-9 1/4-inches to hold the top mark out of the first flight of jumpers.

The Rangers finished 22nd in the team standings with 15.5 points. North Valley won the team title with 65 points.

• On the boys side, Estacada senior Justin Rich picked up 18 points on Friday highlighted with a win in the shot put (52-1 1/2), overtaking South Umpqua’s Trevor Duffy in the second round of throws. He sent the metal ball flying over the 50-foot line three times.

Rich added a runner-up finish in the discus (157-10), getting his best throw on his second-to-last attempt.

Rangers’ sophomore Dillon Zheol finished fifth in the triple jump, taking the lead after the first flight of jumpers with an effort of 41-8 1/2 to end prelims.

Estacada junior Micah Jury came in fifth in the 300 hurdles (41.02).

The Rangers earned a top-10 finish with 26 points, while North Bend won the title with 51 points.
