Estacada closes out the year by winning the bronze bracket at North Clackamas

by: ESTACADA NEWS: DAVID BALL - Estacadas Libby Juker gloves a ball near third base during the teams 8-7 semifinal win over Colton on Sunday. MILWAUKIE — Estacada’s 10U softball team won all four of its games to claim the bronze-bracket title at its end-of-season tournament last weekend at North Clackamas Park.

The Rangers started the tournament with a 12-8 win over Sellwood, moving in front in the bottom of the third inning when Natalie Simmons hit a double down the right-field line that allowed Taira Bunyard to come home with the go-ahead run. Libby Juker followed by sending an RBI-double into the center-field grass to extend the margin to 11-8.

Estacada beat Happy Valley and Molalla on Saturday and scored an 8-7 win over the Colton Dynamite in Sunday’s semifinals.

The Rangers were ready for a rematch against Colton in the championship game later in the afternoon, but a heavy rain stormed soaked the field moments before the opening pitch forcing the cancellation of the finale.

Estacada was awarded the first-place trophy based on being the team to emerge from the winner’s bracket.

“Nobody likes to win by default,” Rangers coach Jim Loucks said. “Colton was a good team and we really would have liked to play them again. But when they announced we had won the tournament, the girls let out screams — they were super happy.”

The Rangers finished the season with a 14-0-1 record.

“The season was absolutely fantastic — they played flawlessly all season,” Loucks said. “They earned it this year.”

Other members of the championship team are Sophie Caldwell, Charlie Felix, Skyla Hedges, Emree Hunter, Sage Loucks, Emilee Ramirez-Bardell, Maria Roshto and Hope Loucks, along with assistant coach Jon Bunyard.
