Rangers explode in the second half

ESTACADA NEWS: DAVID BALL - Estacadas Cassy MacMurray clears half court on the dribble.

Team Score

The Estacada girls basketball team pulled away in the second half Friday night to score a convincing 78-51 win over Philomath.

The Rangers defense turned the tide with an increased pressure that saw the visiting Warriors come up empty on their first 10 possessions of the half. That stretch included a 10-second half-court violation and four missed free throws.

Meanwhile, Estacada was hitting the mark at the other end of the court, knocking down its first four shots. Kristen Kiser got it going with a long two out of the corner and moments later she found Skylar Hunter cutting to the hoop for another two from close range. Delaney Alves drained a 3-pointer from the top of the circle and before the third quarter was two minutes old, the Rangers had expanded their eight-point halftime lead to 17.
