U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, who represents the 1st Congressional District, including all of Washington County, will stop by the Forest Grove Chamber lunch Monday, Nov. 19. The lunch, held at the Community Auditorium, 1915 Main St., will begin at 11:30 a.m. to allow for the usual mixing and mingling and give Bonamici a chance to tackle questions from the business community. Newspaper battle goes on air

The 2012 election is over, but the contest for print supremacy in Forest Grove goes on — and on-the-air.

This Thursday, Nov. 8, Oregon Public Broadcasting will look at the rivalry between the 126-year-old News-Times and the four-week-old Forest Grove Leader during its morning talk show Think Out Loud. John Schrag, publisher of the News-Times, will join host David Miller to talk about how a town of 22,000 became home to a pair of competing papers. Chris Anderson, publisher of The Oregonian, which publishes the Leader, declined to come on the air or make his staff available. El Torero is back

Peruvian food is returning to Forest Grove at El Torero Mexican Peruvian Restaurant on Main Street. Henningsen wins award

For the second year in a row, Henningsen Cold Storage, which has its main facility in Forest Grove, has been recognized as one of the Top 3PL Providers by Food Logistics magazine. Food Logistics’ list of Top 3PLs is comprised of third party logistics providers that offer a broad scope of services and capabilities that enable food companies manage costs, increase flexibility, improve service levels and operational efficiency and reduce capital expenditures.

Library book sale a success

The fall used book sale held in October at the Forest Grove City Library was very successful, raising $4,600 for the Friends of Forest Grove City Library, which will be used for library programs throughout the year. Another fundraiser, the Books and Buns dinner raised $1,785 for the Library Foundation to be used for furniture and signage as part of “The Story Unfolds” capital campaign.

Pruning workshop set

The City of Forest Grove Community Forestry Commission will hold a free tree pruning workshop at Talisman Park in Forest Grove beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. The Park is located at 1210 Willamina St. south of Gales Creek Road.

The hour-long workshop will be conducted by local registered consulting arborist and professional forester David Hunter and cover basic tree pruning methods and the correct use of pruning tools. Equestrian team holds fundraiser

The Forest Grove High School equestrian team will hold a fundraiser at Rainbow Lanes Bowling Alley, 2748 19th Place in Forest Grove from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 18. The fundraiser will help offset some of the costs the team incurs throughout their season next spring. For $10, participants can bowl for two hours, which includes the cost of renting shoes. The team will also be selling pizza and beverages, and will hold a raffle during the event.
