A square tree deal

by: NEWS-TIMES PHOTO: CHASE ALLGOOD - Workers from Stimson Lumber attach a crane to the 75-foot douglas fir that will dress up Pioneer Courthouse Square through the holiday season. Stimson Lumber donated another whopper of a tanenbaum to the city of Portland last week.

The 75-foot-tall douglas fir, cut from Stimson-owned timber land and delivered on a convoy of trucks into downtown Portland last Friday, will be adorned with 14,000 colored lights and will be lit next Friday, Nov. 23, the day after Thanksgiving.

The tree is the ninth that Stimson Lumber, Co., which operates a mill north of Gaston and is headquartered in Portland, has donated to the city's holiday display.
