Forest Grove Elks, Elkettes snare grant for kids programs


The Forest Grove Elks and Elkettes were among several western Washington County groups to share in $78,000 in grants distributed last week by the Oregon International Air Show.

The Elks will use their $750 contribution to purchase thesauruses for elementary students in the Forest Grove School District. The Elkettes will use their $750 check to help send children to Meadowood Springs, a summer camp near Pendlenton for speech- and hearing-impaired kids. Leading Knight Alice Custodio said the group will have other events to raise funds and awareness about the camp. Mark your calendars now for a Feb. 2 Groundhog Day Dance and open house at the lodge, at 2810 Pacific Ave.

Other recipients of Air Show grants included Friends of Cornelius Library, wich received $700 for the library's storytime program, and Bag&Baggage Productions, which also received $700 for its program offering high school students in western Washington County free admission to their productions.
