Gaston council adds to new member

David Meeker joined the Gaston City Council last Wednesday with support from his friends and family.

by: STEPHANIE HAUGEN - David Meeker (right) was sworn in at Gaston's city council meeting last Wednesday night, Jan. 9. He secured the seat after the city council voted in December to break the tie between Meeker and one other Gaston resident, Jim Reed, who both received three write-in votes on the ballot.

Now that he is officially serving on the council, the motorcycle mechanic plans to focus on making things easier for local businesses.

Meeker's brother and friends came to support him at his first council meeting.

Richard Sager (left) was also nominated and voted in to continue serving as council president. Sager's council position also started with a tie on the ballot about 13 years ago.
