Valentines can dance, dine and drink

by: COURTESY PHOTO - Why wait until Feb. 14 when you can start the fun with your Valentine this Saturday? There are several heartwarming local events coming up this weekend.

Forest Grove will have special wine blending and three dances to choose from on Feb. 9, so polish those dancing shoes.

n The Forest Grove Elks Club will host a Valentine’s Dinner and Sweetheart’s Ball. Dance the night away with live music from 7 to 11 p.m. after dinner. The salad bar opens at 5:30 p.m., and buffet-style dinner is served at 6 p.m. with game hen or pork loin, au gratin potatoes, rolls, champagne and dessert all on the menu.

Advanced tickets are $15, which includes a rose and candy for ladies. Tickets at the door are $17.50; couples tickets are $30 for two. Proceeds will help pay for a defibrillator for the Elks Lodge, 2810 Pacific Ave. For more information or to buy tickets, call 503-357-2440.

n West Tuality Habitat for Humanity will hold its ninth annual Hearts for Humanity Valentine Gala and auction from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains. The nonprofit is working on a five-unit condo project at 19th Avenue and Oak Street in Forest Grove, and proceeds from the gala will help pay for it.

Tickets for the gala are $50 and include wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres and dancing to the music of the Brett Lucich Band. They can be purchased by calling Wendy Bruno at Columbia Community Bank, 503-992-8600.

n Visitation Catholic Church and School in Forest Grove is also hosting a dance featuring live music from the Lake Oswego Millenium Dance Band, which will perform classics from the bygone big band era such as "Sing Sing Sing," "All the Way" and "In the Mood."

Get ready to hit the floor with your dance partner or sit back and enjoy refreshments and music. Beer, wine and child care are available. It all happens at Visitation Parish Center, 4198 N.W. Visitation Road in Forest Grove, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and will benefit the parents club. For more information, call Maureen at 503-939-7421.

If you need a little courage to get on the dance for or want to secure a special gift for your date, visiting Montinore Vineyard could help.

Montinore Vineyards will offer visitors the chance to blend their own Pinot Noir and make their own special reserve wine. Vineyard staff will bottle and custom label each bottle. Cost is $50 per couple or $40 for members and includes blending, labeling and two complimentary tastings. RSVP to This email address is being protected from spambots. The Tualatin Valley Harmony Masters Barbershop Chorus is ready to send out teams of barbershop quartets Feb. 14 to serenade special someones across Washington and Multnomah Counties, west of the Willamette River. (Eastside requests are handled by a different group.) For $45, a barbershop quartet will drive to the person's home or office, perform two love songs and deliver a rose, card and box of candy. The chorus has been doing this for more than a decade and handles an average of 40 performances each Valentine's Day, according to Ron Fairfield, who will be handling reservations.
