Cornelius Police Department names Jason Moser Officer of the Year for 2012

The Cornelius Police Department has named Officer Jason Moser the 2012 Police Officer of the Year.

After receiving multiple nominations from fellow officers and employees, the 14-year veteran and certified drug recognition expert was selected for the first annual award.

"Officer Moser was cited for his ethics, reliability, teamwork, innovation, professionalism and community relations," said Cornelius Interim Police Chief Ken Summers. “We are very proud of Officer Moser and the level of service he provides to our citizens on a daily basis.”

Summers said the department hopes to raise its standards every year and achieve excellence.

“We have great officers here,” Summers said. “I think it’s very important that we recognize officers who are doing things right and who are role models to other officers.”

The day after he received the award, Moser patrolled for drivers under the influence of intoxicants on Sunday, Feb. 3 during and after the Superbowl, typically one of the worst days of the year for DUII arrests, according to Summers. Moser arrested a 60-year-old man driving under the influence of marijuana after smelling the odor coming from the car, exemplifying and continuing his service to the Cornelius community.
