Forest Grove restaurant named superior cellar by Oregon Wine Board

Restauranteur Kathy Compton's Forest Grove business, 1910 Main — An American Bistro, has won the Superior Cellar Award presented by the Oregon Wine Press and the Oregon Wine Board.

The award "provides consumer guidance on restaurants featuring diverse and broad selections of Oregon wines," according to a press release. The goal is to help consumers locate restaurants, both in Oregon and elsewhere, that strongly advocate Oregon wines and to encourage restaurants to carry them.

In selecting the award winner, wine lists were evaluated for breadth, depth and balance as well as specific selections. Emphasis also was placed on waitstaff training and education. Special tastings and other wine-related events were also taken into consideration.

A 30-year culinary veteran, Compton opened 1910 Main in April 2011.

The restaurant is housed in a complex built by Compton and her husband, Donald. The building also contains Donald Compton's dental practice and an expansion of the restaurant, The Tasting Room at 1910 Main, showcasing wineries that don’t have tasting rooms.

Currently those wineries — Cancilla Cellars, Forty Five, Gresser Vineyards, Provincial Vineyards and Sunswept Vineyards — also contribute to the restaurant’s locally-sourced wine list.
