As of the News-Times' press deadline Tuesday, three people had applied to fill the Position 2 seat on the Forest Grove School Board that became vacant after the death last month of Gil Jimenez.

They are: Lonnie Winkler, who serves as an alternate on the district budget committee and is vice-president of the Fern Hill Elementary School parent club; Jeff Cooper, a parent representative to the district's technology advisory panel and Neil Armstrong Middle School; and Charless Waterman, a parent volunteer in the district.

Deadline to file an application at the school district administration office, 1728 Main St., is 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 6. The board is expected to interview candidates and make a selection at a special meeting March 14.

Jimenez, who had been on the board for a year, died Feb. 19 after a long illness. Board members voted Feb. 27 to appoint someone to fill the position between mid-March and the end of June, when Jimenez's term was due to expire.

His seat is open in the May 21 special election, as are the seats currently held by Alisa Hampton (Position 3) and John Hayes (Position 1).

Hayes has filed for candidacy with the Washington County Elections Office.
