Phyllis E. Bateman

Phyllis Elaine (Kepper) Bateman, 90, died on March 20, 2013.

Services will be held in Gales Creek on Saturday, April 6 noon at the Gales Creek Cemetery. A reception will follow at Gales Creek Community Church of God Fellowship Hall. A celebration of life service will be held in Sitka, Alaska on April 20.

Sally Heinrich-Baker

Sally (Adele) Heinrich-Baker, 87, of Hillsboro, died March 29, 2013.

A Rosary and Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 6 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 427 S.E. Third Ave. in Hillsboro. A reception will follow. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

She was born to Lawrence and Hazel (Calavan) Newbill in 1924 in Portland, where she was raised and educated, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1943.

She married Joseph Heinrich in 1946. They made their home in Hillsboro. Joseph died in 1977. She married Don Baker in 1991. They made their home in Forest Grove until 2006 when they moved to Cornell Estates in Hillsboro. Don died in 2008.

She worked as a receiving clerk for Hanks Thriftway in Cornelius.

She enjoyed holidays, family gatherings and volunteering at St. Matthew Parish.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph and Don; parents; and three siblings.

Survivors include her four children, Dave Heinrich of Cornelius, and Matt Heinrich, Bunny Bertsch and Jani Carmichael of Hillsboro; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests donations in Sally’s name to Hospice.

Elwin E. Hillsbery

Elwin E. "Al" Hillsbery, 88, of Vernonia, died Saturday, March 30, 2013.

Arrangements are pending through Tualatin Valley Funeral Alternatives in Hillsboro, which will release a complete obituary in the next issue.

Kathleen A. Morris

Kathleen Ann Morris, 71, of Forest Grove, died Friday, March 29, 2013.

Recitation of the rosary and funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1660 Elm St. in Forest Grove. Burial will follow at Mountainview Cemetery in Forest Grove. Following, family and friends are invited to a reception.

She was born on January 10, 1942 in Carroll, Iowa to George and Rosellen (Conrad) Wood. She attended Omak Union High School and graduated in 1960.

She married Robert Morris in 1960 in Washington. They moved to Forest Grove in 1963.

She worked for Safeway, as the secretary and treasurer for UFCW 555, and as a committee member for State of Oregon’s Joint Labor Management Committee.

She also served as a Forest Grove City Council member, and was a volunteer for Kiwanis and St. Anthony Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, April and Stan Morris; and a granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; three children, Brenda Bowes and Ron of Forest Grove and Kelly Shumaker of California; three brothers; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggest donations to Forest Grove High School Athletic Department in care of Doug Thompson.

Florence H. Nicholson

Florence H. Nicholson, 98, a former resident of McMinnville and late of Lake Oswego, died Sunday, March 31, 2013.

Survivors include her daughter, Maudeen Jordan of Cornelius.

Arrangements are pending through Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove which will release a complete obituary in the next issue.

Mary E. Smith

Mary E. Smith, 84, of Forest Grove, died Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

She was born on July 27, 1928 in Monterrey Park, Calif., to Percy Scobie and Elizabeth Minnie (Titterington) Scobie.

She married Royce M. Smith in 1948 in Wilmar, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Royce in 2005; parents, Percy and Elizabeth Scobie; brothers, Trenton Scobie and Robert Scobie; and sister, Dorothy Thompson.

Survivors include her sons, Robert, Richard, Royce and David Smith; sisters-in-law; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
