Citizens in the tiny unincorporated community of Gales Creek northwest of Forest Grove are moving ahead with plans to start a Chamber of Commerce.

An organizational get-together last week at the Gales Creek Church of God yielded a “great turnout,” said longtime resident Joyce Sauber. “If nothing else, we will be doing a lot of networking within the community.”

In recent months, as formerly shuttered businesses such as the Gales Creek Tavern and the Gales Creek Country Store and Deli have reopened (see story on page A5), some in the community have been motivated to establish a Chamber.

“At first I thought it was a strange thing to do as we aren’t really a city,” Sauber said. “However, we have a lot of businesses up and down the valley. Even though we stretch out for several miles, everyone works together.”
