Ty Angevine of McMinnville-based Concrete Solutions puts the final touch on a section of walkway ringing Talisman Park in Northwest Forest Grove. The walkway is the last of the improvements written into the city’s master plan for the park when it was updated 10 years ago, said Parks Supervisor Steve Huffman. Talisman has gotten a new playground, landscaping, irrigation and now the walkway. But its history goes back 40 years, according to Bob Browning, who has lived next to the park since then. “We’ve been working on it that whole time,” he said. Browning credits the park’s success to his late wife, Judy, and three other dedicated volunteer boosters: Linda Crum, Karen Walsh and Jane Benson. The park started out in the early 1970s as a mix of rough pastureland and swamp, Browning said. A decade later, the four women’s efforts had added a tire swing and two other pieces of playground equipment, he said, along with bark dust and a few trees. The city will likely include future improvements for the park when it updates its master plan in the next few years, Huffman said.
