Celebrating the diversity of wildlife is the focus of the annual bird festival May 18 at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood.

Early morning bird walks begin at 5:30 a.m. that Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to noon the Tualatin Riverkeepers will offer paddle trips on the river from their Tigard location.

Family activities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include a pond study, casting for fish, migration golf, gyotaku (Japanese fish printing on fabric), nature and flower walks and Portland Audubon's live bird show.

A basic digital photography workshop is set for 4:30 p.m., followed by a twilight walk at 6:30 p.m. The refuge is located at 12205 S.W. Tualatin Road. Visit for more information.
