Bird festival set for May 18

Celebrating the diversity of wildlife is the focus of the annual bird festival May 18 at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood.

Early morning bird walks begin at 5:30 a.m. that Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to noon the Tualatin Riverkeepers will offer paddle trips on the river from their Tigard location.

Family activities run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include a pond study, casting for fish, migration golf, gyotaku (Japanese fish printing on fabric), nature and flower walks and Portland Audubon's live bird show.

A basic digital photography workshop is set for 4:30 p.m., followed by a twilight walk at 6:30 p.m. The refuge is located at 12205 S.W. Tualatin Road. Visit tualatinriverbirdfestival.com for more information.
