Local-transit survey seeks Forest Grove citizen input

Suggesting a name for Forest Grove’s upcoming local-transit service is just one reason to take the short survey posted by Ride Connection at

Helping to determine the route and its bus-stop locations is another.

Ride Connection is the nonprofit partnering with Forest Grove and TriMet to help bring the new “bus” route to life by September.

The service will use two 14-person passenger vans to cover a route that begins at the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center on Douglas Street and travels throughout the city, far beyond TriMet’s current bus line, with possible route deviations along the way based on workplace shifts or door-to-door requests.

As of Tuesday, according to Ride Connection Outreach Specialist Lydia Corran, more than 100 people had taken the survey, which must be completed by July 19.

Here’s what the two-minute survey includes: After determining your home’s general location, it asks about your current transit use, whether you’d be likely to use the new local-transit service, and — if so — for what kinds of trips and specific destinations.

Other questions include how far you’d go to catch a bus (one block or less, two to four blocks, etc.) and if you’d be more likely to use the service if it picked you up at your front door.

A bonus question lets survey-takers suggest a name for the new service. Countryside Bus and Grove Rover were among the survey-takers’ suggested monikers, along with Forest Grove InterLink.

Corran hopes for a large sample response from the city’s 21,000 residents. “Obviously, we want to include as many opinions as possible because Forest Grove has diverse needs,” she said.

For those who would rather complete the survey on paper than online, Ride Connection will be distributing hard copies to more than 50 locations around town, including Maggie’s Buns, the city library, the aquatic center and the Farmers Market. Once completed, those surveys can be dropped off at City Hall or mailed to Ride Connection (address will be included on the survey).
