History lovers give council Stewart Award

The Forest Grove City Council was awarded the Eric G. Stewart Award, named after local archivist and historian, at the May 28 city council meeting.”It was given to the city council because they have a continuing realization that preservation is an important part of Forest Grove,” said George Cushing, Historic Landmarks Board member. The council’s support in setting up the Historic Landmark Board and upholding renovation grants were factors in the decision, he said.

Dog training just starting in Vernonia

Dog owners can still enroll their pooches in an eight-week dog-training course that started in Vernonia June 4, according to Forest Grove resident Mandy Prasad, who will assist with the class. Eileen Williams will teach dogs house manners and obedience by using positive reinforcement. Williams charges $100 for the whole course. Curves gets new owners

Curves, a women’s fitness and weight loss center, has been bought by Ray and Gretchen Keefer, who said they will continue to support Curves members and promote healthy living. Gretchen, who has been a member of Curves for more than six years, will be the on-site manager. The Forest Grove Curves at 1929 21st Ave. is open Monday through Saturday.
