We have interns, yes we do

College juniors learn at Pamplin newspapers this summer

If you’ve gotten a call from a young News-Times reporter whose voice and name you don’t recognize, it’s likely to be from one of our summer interns, Victoria Hart and Kathleen Rohde.

Hart, a Vancouver, Wash., native who will be a senior next fall at the University of Idaho in Moscow, is majoring in journalism and English. She is editor-in-chief of Blot magazine at UI and copy chief of The Argonaut, the school’s student newspaper. Hart

She loves writing profile stories and news features but has already demonstrated a talent for reporting spot news. Hart also enjoys photography, and her photos have appeared in the News-Times and the Hillsboro Tribune since she started her internship three weeks ago.

RohdeHart volunteered for Relay for Life in 2012 and served as Lutheran Campus Ministry president in 2012-13.

A rising senior at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Rohde is multimedia editor for her school’s student newspaper, The Pacific Index. She was awarded a Snowden Internship by the University of Oregon School of Journalism, which has her working side-by-side with editors and reporters at the News-Times, the Hillsboro Tribune and the Portland Tribune this summer.

So far, Rohde, a native of Palo Alto, Calif., has covered crime stories, news features and profiles in her two weeks with Pamplin Media Group papers.

Rohde is majoring in journalism and minoring in editing and publishing at Pacific, where she participated in the Master in Fine Arts in Writing residency program in January 2013.
