It'll be a blast July 4

Fireworks display returns to Forest Grove

For the second year in a row after a decade-long hiatus, the Forest Grove community will enjoy a Fourth of July fireworks show in town.

Several local firefighters have been training to safely set off fireworks next Thursday, July 4, on the fields adjacent to Tom McCall Upper Elementary School, 1341 Pacific Ave., said Dave Nemeyer, public information officer for Forest Grove Fire & Rescue. Western Display Fireworks of Canby will handle the overall show.

Music begins at 7 p.m. and fireworks start at approximately 9:30 p.m. No personal fireworks, alcohol or tobacco will be allowed at the family-friendly event, and there is a $5 per person suggested donation. “Our goal is to get the show to pay for itself,” said Nemeyer, noting that each display costs between $5,000 and $7,000. Donations will go to the firefighters association’s community fireworks fund.

Attendees are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic fare to the event and are asked to pick up after themselves. For more information, visit fgfr.org.
