Courtesy photosBryan K. Bartholomew of Banks was seriously injured Saturday, June 23, in a fiery crash on Highway 47. According to Oregon State Police, Bartholomew, 25, was driving north in his Jeep Cherokee when he noticed too late that traffic ahead of him had stopped right around milepost 88. He braked hard and swerved into the southbound lane to avoid a rear-end collision, crashing into the side of a 2000 Ford RV pulling a minivan. Bartholomew’s Jeep traveled off the highway’s west side and rolled as it struck a tree.

The RV followed it, landing on top of the Jeep. People from passing cars stopped and helped Bartholomew out of the Jeep prior to both vehicles catching fire. Forest Grove Fire & Rescue firefighters extinguished the fire. An air ambulance flew Bartholomew to Oregon Health and Science University with serious injuries. Courtesy photos

He was cited by Oregon State Police for “following too close” and “unlawful possession of less than an ounce of marijuana,” according to state police. The Ford RV was driven by Justin Lane, 39, who appears to have been visiting Oregon from Arizona with his wife and daughter, who were in the RV at the time of the crash. They appeared to have minor injuries, according to police.
