First Wednesday Downtown Forest Grove merchants open their doors for evening festivities the first Wednesday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy tastings from local wineries, listen to music, take advantage of food specials from restaurants, shop stores offering bargains, peruse art galleries and check out craft vendors.

Kids Crafts Valley Art, 2022 Main St., invites kids to make a patriotic pinwheel from 5 to 8 p.m.

Book Discussion Join a conversation about "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz, which reveals a powerful code of conduct that can transform lives to a new experience of freedom, happiness and love. First Friday Dinner The monthly dinner at the Forest Grove Senior & Community Center, 2037 Douglas St., features a different guest chef each month. Music Originally the front-man for the band Crown Point, Jon Davidson emerges as a solo artist with an eclectic and talented sound. McMenamins Grand Lodge. 7 p.m.

Art Show Valley Art, 2022 Main St., invites the public to a reception with good food and cool drink to celebrate Tom Boring, Jeff Boring and Karen Van Hoy, artists who repurpose materials to create art. 2 to 4 p.m.

June 10

Book Group Meet at the Forest Grove Library, 2114 Pacific Ave., to join in a discussion led by Dave Pauli about "The Fallen Man" by Tony Hillerman. 7 p.m.

For the Birds Learn more about the birds in William Finley’s beautiful photographs. Listen to bird calls, examine the functions of different beak shapes, and consider housing. Music & Movies Portland’s Freak Mountain Ramblers will bring their brand of rock 'n' roll, bluegrass, alternative country and country-blues to McMenamins Grand Lodge at 6 p.m. At dusk, Ain’t in it for my Health: A Film About Levon Helm, will play outside on the lawn. Director Jacob Hatley's intimate documentary finds four-time Grammy winner Levon Helm at home in Woodstock, N..Y, in the midst of creating his first studio album in 25 years.

Workshop Roving Horse Henna will host a two-hour henna workshop featuring history of the product, hands-on mixing demos, books and projects, and free applications. Forest Grove Library. 2 to 4 p.m.

July 12 to 14, 19 and 21

Theater The first of Theatre in the Grove’s summer CAST Playhouse productions, Sleeping Beauty, shows at 7 p.m. July 12,13,19 and 20, and at 2:30 p.m. July 14 and 21. Theatre in the Grove, 2028 Pacific Ave. in Forest Grove.

July 13

Music Jon Koonce, singer-songwriter and guitarist formerly of Johnny and the Distractions, will play at McMenamins Grand Lodge at 7 p.m. At dusk, 1985’s Back to the Future will play on the lawn.

Writing Workshop Writers in the Grove will help writers with prompts in an interactive workshop. Forest Grove Library. 10:30 a.m. to noon.
