NEWS-TIMES PHOTO: Doug BurkhardtAs a young girl, Forest Grove resident Lois Campbell rode in a wagon pulled by a horse when she first came to Oregon with her family. Nearly a century later she sat in Maggie’s Buns to celebrate her 106th birthday with a friend, crediting her longevity to “exercise and good nutrition.”

Born July 12, 1907, in Berkeley, Calif., Campbell attended Forest Grove High School. “But the old one,” she clarified. “Where the Catholic church is now.” She enrolled at Pacific University, but later transferred to the University of Oregon.

For her birthday, members of the exercise class Campbell regularly attends wished her a happy day with a card “bigger than my head,” she said — and she had a celebratory lunch with some of her family members.
