Matt Murrays resume emphasizes dual language-focused education

Cornelius Elementary School’s newly-selected principal is a veteran Idaho educator with experience in dual language programs.

The Forest Grove School Board was expected to approve the hiring of Matthew Murray — who has been superintendent of Glenns Ferry Joint District in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, for the past three years — at a special meeting Wednesday morning.

Earlier in his career, Murray taught in a dual language program and served as a middle school assistant principal in the Long Beach Unified School District in California.

Superintendent Yvonne Curtis said Murray will be a great addition to a strong team of district leaders. “Matt has a history of leading the work to improve outcomes for all students and specifically English Language Learners,” she said.

Murray describes himself as a “driven educator with a zeal for helping children walk through the door of their potential.”

The bilingual Murray earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and his master’s degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He earned a Ph.D. in American literature from Stony Brook University in New York and is currently enrolled in the Ed.D. program at the University of Idaho in Moscow, according to district spokeswoman Connie Potter.

Murray replaces Dave Dorman, who retired this summer.
