$45,000 donation means a new boat for Gaston Fire
The Gaston Rural Fire Department receives a boat
A $45,000 gift from the Dal Baker trust means the Gaston Rural Fire District won't need to patrol Hagg Lake on aging jet skis this summer.
Instead, the fire district will be able to invest in a boat to patrol the waterways.
In October, the fire district advertised the sale of its two jet skis, one of which has a failing motor.
The watercraft were purchased thanks to a $15,000 grant from the Dal Baker trust in 2006.
Each summer, Gaston firefighters patrol Hagg Lake to provide emergency services.
'Having this kind of support from a private foundation is unheard of,' said Gaston Fire Chief Roger Mesenbrink, 'and I think it puts an even greater responsibility on the department's shoulders to carry out this mission.'
