Pacific starts building dorms

Pacific University began construction on a new LEED-certified 200-bed residence hall this week.

The 60,000-square foot building will be four stories, located on what is currently Reynolds Field, adjacent to the University Center, Price Hall and the Holce Tennis Courts.

Last spring, Pacific’s Board of Trustees approved a plan for the new residence hall, which will help accommodate a growing student population.

Currently, more than 1,700 students are enrolled in undergraduate programs. Enrollment is expected to grow to 2,000 by 2020.

The new hall will be the third residence constructed at the campus since 2006.

University officials have selected Walsh Construction and Malham Architects for the project. Walsh Construction built Berglund Hall for the university in 2007.
