A report in last week’s News-Times about the Oct. 14 Forest Grove School Board meeting contained several errors.

The source of an expected $825,000 to $850,000 the district expects to receive in the next two years is from the extra $100 million allocated to Oregon schools during last month’s special session of the legislature, not reductions to the Public Employees Retirement System, which starts in 2015.

Also, the district has not yet received any of that special session-related funding, pointed out school board Chairman John Hayes. Those funds will be released in 2014-15 “as part of the regular per-pupil allocation to schools,” he said.

The district has hired extra teachers to handle large student numbers at some grade levels, but that money has come from Gain Share funds ($363,000) and other sources besides the special session money, Hayes said.

This fall’s 52 additional students represent a 1 percent enrollment increase, not 10 percent as the story reported. And projected 2013-2014 expenses are $51.4 million, not $3.9 million.
