Gov. John Kitzhaber has appointed Forest Grove School Board Chair John Hayes to the newly created state Task Force on School Funding.

The task force was established by House Bill 2506 to look at the funding formula for K-12 schools and education service districts and make recommendations about possible modifications.

The current funding formulas used to distribute State School Fund monies to local school districts was adopted by the state Legislature in 1991.

Hayes will join 12 others on the school funding task force: four state legislators and eight others appointed by Kitzhaber, to include teachers, school district administrators and business managers who represent urban and rural schools across the state.

Hayes was nominated to the task force by Forest Grove Superintendent Yvonne Curtis, herself a member of the 13-member Oregon Education Investment Board.

“I am very happy to be appointed to the task force,” Hayes said Monday. “Through the leadership of the Superintendent ... and the school board, Forest Grove continues to have major influence on state education issues.”

Hayes has served on the School Board since being appointed in January 2012. He was elected to a four-year term in November 2012.
