Lions Club aids optometry students

by: NEWS-TIMES COURTESY PHOTO: KENNETH MARBLE - J.P. Lowery, chief of pediatrics for Pacific Universitys optometry clinics, had the pleasure of introducing two of his students, Charlene Walton and Adrian Salamanca at last months Lions Club recogonition dinner last month. The students, chosen by the faculty, each received a $1,500 community service award to help them in their optometry studies. When things go well for the Forest Grove Lions Club, it means things go well for others.

The venerable service club supports the commmunity in a variety of ways but has a special passion for vision and hearing care, which was evident when the club held its annual recognition dinner last month at the Homestead Community Center.

Among those honored was Michael Doherty, whose family-owned Ford dealership stepped up as the Headliner Sponsor of the annual Run & Walk for Sight. This year’s event, held on Sept. 21, was so successful that the club was able to help fund the studies of two Pacific University optometry students.
