Shelter in need of volunteers, food

With the recent cold weather, Forest Grove United Church of Christ’s Severe Weather Shelter has been a busy place.

The shelter is in need of blankets and portable hygiene items for guests.

Staffed primarily by Pacific University students during the school year, the shelter needs volunteers to help during winter break. Organizers would like to create a volunteer call schedule through Jan. 6.

A volunteer training will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17. To be placed on the volunteer call list, contact Pastor Jennifer Yocum through the church office at 503-357-9121.

People wishing to provide meals for shelter guests are asked to portion them in 3-4 serving containers that are labeled and dated. Volunteers can also help prepare and serve meals to guests from 7 to 9 p.m. on evenings when the shelter is open.

Notice of Shelter activation is posted on the FGUCC website, fgucc.org, and on the office phone.
