Calling all hobby farmers -- to Newberg


Those looking for tips for their small-farm operations are invited to participate in a workshop covering agricultural operations on a smaller scale Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Oregon State University Small Farm Program and extension service, Yamhill County Soil and Water Conservation District and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service are presenting a small-farm workshop in Newberg, 2610 E. Hancock St.

Check-in starts at 4 p.m. The program runs from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Sessions include “Cover Crops,” presented by Nick Andrews of OSU’s small farm program; “Implements and Tool Bars,” presented by Josh Volk, who manages annual crops at Our Farm Table; “Buffer Zones,” presented by Maria Vicksta and Josh Togstad at YSWCD; “Soil Health,” presented by Cory Owens of NRCS Soil Conservationist; and “Pasture Management,” presented by Gene Pirelli of OSU’s extension service.

The $20 registration fee includes a box dinner. Proceeds will benefit YSWCD’s small-farm educational programs.
