Banks middle school project comes in under budget, principal resigns

The Banks School District bond project to build a new middle school is scheduled to come in $450,000 under budget. The money has to be used for facilities and technology projects, so district officials cannot use the money to hire personnel.

Superintendent Bob Huston said district officials have a “good ideas” list that includes landscaping, speaker systems in classrooms, hardscape for the new athletic facility’s bathroom and more. Nothing has been decided yet, however.

Banks Elementary School Principal Shawnda Sewell resigned at the school board meeting last week. District leaders will soon begin a search for her replacement.
