Garden Class l There will be a free gardening workshop at the Forest Grove Senior & Community Center, 2037 Douglas St., co-sponsored by the Dairy Creek Community Food Web and the OSU Extension Service. 2 to 4 p.m. Physical therapists will address body mechanics, proper lifting, aids for knees and safe gardening. Lynn Wagner, a horticultural therapist, will discuss benefits of gardening, including exercise, recreation and nutrition. Jerry Anderson will demonstrate using garden tools that are easier on hands and arms, as well as container gardening and vertical gardening.

Garden Class l The Dairy Creek Community Food Web and North Plains Farmers Market are hosting a class on starting seeds and a seed swap. North Plains Community Gardens. Vanessa VanDomelen of Mountaindale Farms will teach. 1 p.m.

Cattle Class l Nita Wilton will teach “Cattle 101” at TorWynd Farm, 21000 N.E. Cove Orchard Road in Yamhill. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about rotational grazing and intensive pasture management, nutrition, fencing, breeds and conformation, as well as the art and science of grass. $60 in advance, $65 day of class. Bring lunch.

April 7

Weed Workshop l A Tualatin Basin weed-watchers workshop will be held at Clean Water Services, 2550 S.W. Hillsboro Highway in Hillsboro. Learn to identify invasive species and report them. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

April 8

Garden Class l The “Container Gardening for Vegetables and Herbs” tour with Jerry Anderson, Tualatin Valley Garden Club member, comes to the Washington County Fairgrounds demonstration gardens. See the container garden project and learn about sizes, shapes and what to plant in containers. Jerry will discuss soils, fertilizers and drainage, and appropriate sized containers for various plants. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. 882 N.E. 28th Ave. in Hillsboro. No registration required. Free.

Arbor Project l Students from the Forest Grove Community School, with assistance from the Community Forestry Commission, will plant trees at Rogers Park to celebrate National Arbor Month. Garden Club l The North Plains Community Garden Club meets at the Jessie Mays Community Hall. 9 a.m.

April 12

Garden Class l Polly Gottesman of Pumpkin Ridge Gardens will teach a class to prepare for winter gardening at the North Plains Community Gardens. 1 p.m.

Tree Pruning l The Community Forestry Commission will host a free tree pruning workshop at Talisman Park, 1210 Willamina Ave., with local arborists and landscape professionals. 9 a.m.

Tree Party l The Tillamook Forest Center is hosting an Arbor Day celebration with crafts, games and tree planting. 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Native Plant Sale l Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve will host the third annual native plant sale 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Perennials, trees and shrubs suited to this area and a large assortment of both common and hard to find natives.

April 15

Soil Class l There will be a soil health class for annual and perennial crop growers. Hillsboro Main Library. 4 to 7:30 p.m.

Garden Class l Ron Spendal, OSU Extension Master Gardener, will teach a class on mason bees and other native pollinators. Learn about life cycle, nesting and management. 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Washington County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro.
