Pacific University went on lockdown Wednesday morning, June 11 for several minutes after a false-alarm call.

Forest Grove Police received a call around 8:43 a.m. about a man with a gun yelling and running toward the school.

Officers located the man about 10 minutes later near Pacific Avenue and Quince Street. The man was not holding a gun, but instead a newspaper. He was checked for weapons, but none were found.

Capt. Mike Herb, spokesman for the department, said incidents connected to the man have appeared in the Forest Grove police log, but added he has never had a history with weapons or assault. Police declined to release his name.

In the wake of Tuesday's deadly shooting at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, “a lot of folks are at a heightened state of alert right now,” Herb said.
