Journey through watercolor

Kalyani Pattani's fruits of a journey to Italy and Sri Lanka — six paintings in watercolor and three in acrylic — will be featured at the Village Gallery of Arts, in Cedar Mill, through Aug. 4.

After earning a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Texas, Austin, and a masters in studio art from Sam Houston State University, also in Texas, Pattani began her career teaching and making art.

She taught ceramic sculpture, painting and drawing at the Montgomery Community College in The Woodlands, Tex., while exhibiting her work at various art shows nearby. Her work has been displayed at Portland City Hall, Beaverton City Hall and the annual Rose Festival Art Show sponsored by the Oregon Society of Artists.

After returning home from a trip abroad, the brilliant sunny landscapes of Tuscany took Pattani back to her early days as an artist and impelled her to begin experimenting with watercolors.

Natural forms and shape are paramount in Pattani’s work, whether sculpture or painting. But in her Cedar Mill exhibit, “In a Journey Through Time,” she explores beautiful, foreign landscapes.
