Grand Lodge brings the highlands to the dinner table Friday

If you're an Oregonian or just visiting, the warmest month of the year most likely translates to weekend getaways, beach trips, river floats and music festival campouts.

But August also sounds that horrifying alarm for — dare we say it — the end of summer.

What better way to rid those summer-is-about-to-end blues than... a tasty and wholesome serving of vice? Every year McMenamins hosts three Scotch & Cigar Dinners for patrons wanting to satisfy their bellies with a selection of scotches, a wonderful multi-course meal and a plentiful box of stogies to top it all off.

This month, Breck Taylor, aka "The Master of Whiskey," hosts his own version of a Scotch & Cigar Dinner on Friday, Aug. 24 at McMenamins Grand Lodge.

There is plenty of food and free music entertainment to be had. Before dinner on Friday at 6 p.m., wise-cracking folk musician Brad Creel and the Reel Deel performs at the lodge's Pat's Corner, while the following night at 7 p.m, Science! performs old-time western roots music mixed with contemporary intellectual and activist sensibilities at Grand Lodge's Garage Door.
