Meteorite talk today

This photo from the summer of 1905 shows Oregon National Guard soldiers protecting the Willamette meteorite outside the Mineral Pavilion at the Lewis and Clark Exposition. Melinda Hutson, a geology instructor at Portland Community College, speaks at 2 p.m. today, March 20, on the Willamette meteorite, the largest meteorite ever found in the United States and one of the largest in the world. The meteorite has been at the center of lawsuits that helped establish ownership of meteorites in general. The talk is part of the Crossroad Lecture Series at the Washington County Museum in the Hillsboro Civic Center Plaza, 120 E. Main St. It's free to museum members, $6 for non-member adults.
