Hawaiian students have a strong presence at the university.Pacific University is bursting with musical and cultural events this month. This Saturday, the school's Hawaiian Club presents its 53rd annual Lu'au, featuring Polynesian food and entertainment (left). Preceding the 6:30 p.m. dance show is a sumptious meal of kalua pig, chicken long rice, teriyaki chicken, poi, haupia, coconut cake and punch. The meal takes place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the University Center, followed by the show in the Stoller Athletic Center. Tickets range from $15 to $37, depending on seating and dinner choice. Purchase in advance at In addition, a "Hawaiian General Store" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Stoller Center will feature specially imported fresh pineapples, cookies, chocolate-covered macademia nuts, leis, jams, jellies and other treats.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. in Taylor-Meade Auditorium, 2014 Cedar St., and features tunes such as "Beulah Witch," made famous by drum legend Buddy Rich. General admission is $7; $5 seniors and Pacific faculty, staff or students.The Pacific Concert Choir and University Chamber Singers (right) perform Friday, April 19, with music ranging from Brahms to a Haitian Vodou song. The Pacific Philharmonic and Chamber Ensemble offers everything from Tchaikovsky and Bruckner to Chick Corea and songs from Les Miserables on Saturday, April 20.
