Call for submissions

Writers in the Grove group is seeking applicants for the annual Lend an Ear, Come and Hear on Saturday, July 13 at Plum Hill Winery in Gaston, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Authors will read an original story, poem or essay no longer than four minutes. Will write poems for money

Anyone who has ever written a poem is eligible to win $1,000 from the Free Poetry Contest sponsored by Poetryfest.

The top 100 winners receive a prize and the last poet standing gets the top reward.

The nonprofit organization is devoted to discovering new poets and helping them gain a larger audience.

To enter, simply send one poem 21 lines or less with your name and address on the same page by June 10 to Free Poetry Contest, P.O. Box 3561, Ashland, Ore., 97520, or at freecontest.com. A winners list is sent to all entrants, along with a free copy of the popular essay, “How to Win a Poetry Contest.”
