Dancers memorial scholarship planned

Tickets are on sale now for December performances of “The Nutcracker” ballet by the Ballet Forest Grove dance troupe.

This year the ballet will be dedicated to the memory of Abigail Robinson and Anna Dieter-Eckerdt. A portion of the proceeds from the performances will be used to create an annual scholarship in their names.

“The scholarship will go to children who do not have the means to dance,” said Patty Petersen, artistic director at Forest Grove Dance Arts. “We are hoping to help four to five children with a year of dance, including [a] costume.” Abby studied ballet, tap and hip-hop at the studio; Anna studied ballet, tap and acrobatics.

Last year three performances nearly sold out, and this year the troupe has added a fourth. The much-loved holiday ballet will be performed in the auditorium at Forest Grove High School, on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15, with two shows each day at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Reserved seating ticket prices range from $8 to $12. Tickets are available online at

The ballet tells, in the form of dance, a young girl’s Christmas Eve dream of being rescued from attacking mice by a valiant nutcracker who is transformed into a handsome prince, and of their journey to the magic Kingdom of Sweets in an enchanted sleigh.

Forms for contributing to the scholarship fund are available at the dance studio, 1819 19th Avenue, Forest Grove. Donations for the Ballet Forest Grove Anna and Abby Scholarship Fund will also be accepted at Bank of the West.
