August opens at TITG Feb. 28

Theatre in the Grove actors are hard at work, prepping for the opening of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, "August: Osage County."

The play will run Feb. 28 to March 16.

A dysfunctional American family drama comes roaring into the 21st century with eyes blazing, nostrils flaring and fangs bared with a vanished father, pill-popping mother and three sisters harboring shady little secrets. When the large Weston family unexpectedly reunites after the patriarch disappears, their Oklahoman family homestead explodes in a maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets.

Directed by Zachary Centers, the play features Pruella Centers as Violet, Jodi Coffman as Barbara, Bud Reece as Beverly, Leslie Collins as Ivy, Holly Farmer as Karen, Brandon Weaver as Bill, Sharon Cunningham as Mattie Fae, Chuck Weed as Charlie, Robert Gray as Little Charles, Jeananne Kelsey as Jean, Michael Rouches as Steve, Carly Wasserstein as Johnna, and Fred Sherrill as Sheriff Gilbeau.

Rrecently produced as a major motion picture starring Meryl Street and Julia Roberts, the work has been nominated for several academy awards. The play contains adult language and themes and is not recommended for kids.

Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $12 for youths and seniors, and can be purchased at theatreinthegrove.org or at the box office, which is open 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to each performance.
