by: COURTESY PHOTO - Event organizers are hoping to draw more participants of all ages to clean up Cornelius on Saturday.Help Cornelius out. Landscape its parks. Pick up trash from its streets. Plant flowers to help beautify the town. Be rewarded with camaraderie and free coffee, donuts and hotdogs.

The third annual Take Care of Cornelius Day clean-up will be held this Saturday, May 17, at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the Cornelius Fred Meyer.

Fred Meyer is providing doughnuts and Cornelius Human Bean Coffee will be supplying coffee for the volunteers to enjoy while they are signing up and receiving their assignments.

This year, a document shredding event will be held at City Hall from 9 a.m. to noon. Residents can shred up to two boxes of personal documents, bills and other private information.

The Cornelius Fire Department volunteers will cook and serve a free hot dog lunch at noon at Harleman Park at the intersection of Tenth Avenue and Heather Street for those who volunteered. Drinks will also be provided.

Last year, multiple waste dumpsters were filled with the collected trash from streets and public areas. Gloves and trash bags will be provided for volunteers. Sponsors and donors include Cornelius Disposal Service, Cornelius Fred Meyer, Wilco Farm Store, Sonic Drive-In, Human Bean Coffee, Portland and Western Railroad , Gratteri’s Tire Service, SOLV, Metro, Washington County and the City of Cornelius.
