2017 Readers' Choice: Restaurant near Manning earns kudos from customers
When people in Manning want a slice of something delicious, they head to Dairy Creek Tavern.
Formerly known as Sunset Inn, the spot updated its name when ownership changed hands to Bob and Lois Schroeder years ago. In addition to the burgers and sandwiches served, a specialty of the rural bar is pizza — and the sauce is made in-house.
The eatery's ownership switched once again in January of last year, this time to Kim and Yung Hong.
The crew has been working hard to implement some new changes — if someone can't get enough of singing in front of a crowd, they can head to Dairy Creek Tavern for a special karaoke night, which happens once a month.
The Mood Swings, a local band, also drops by every four weeks to play original music that spans the genres of rock, swing and more, and they even take suggestions from the audience.
The space attracts people from Banks, Buxton, Vernonia and other areas nearby, especially during the summer, when groups are making their way out to and from the beach.
Right now, a priority is to change things up for both new and old patrons, which led to a deck being built, some new furniture purchases and the remodeling of parts of the floor. If one fancies a slice of pizza, live music and the chance show off the sounds of a vocal virtuoso, this is the place to be.
