Pacific University celebrates another year of success with its annual golf tournament

For the sixth year in a row, Pacific University bolstered the funding for its 21-sport athletics program with a star-studded celebrity golf tournament, held on Monday at The Reserve Vineyards & Golf Club in Aloha.

The Pacific Legends Classic, hosted by KISS lead guitarist and Pacific trustee Tommy Thayer, returned to The Reserve for the fifth straight year for a concert and silent auction on Sunday night, followed by a golf clinic and tournament on Monday. Both events featured lineups packed with stars from the worlds of music and sports, and raised funds for the Boxers’ NCAA Division III athletics program.

Among the notable celebrities on hand for the golf action on Monday were University of Oregon men’s golf coach and former PGA Tour player Casey Martin, plus current PGA professionals Brian Henninger and Tommy Masters, who led the golf clinic on Monday morning.

Henninger, who lives in Wilsonville, is a veteran of both the PGA and Nationwide golf tours, and he returned for his third stint at the Legends Classic.

Masters, one of the top teaching professionals in the country, also returned for a third straight year. Masters played on both the Nike and Canadian tours and is listed by GOLF Magazine as one of its Top 100 Instructors.

Other big names who participated in the golf tournament on Monday included former Oregon football coach and ESPN analyst Mike Bellotti, former MLB all-star Richie Sexson, plus former Portland Trail Blazers Bobby Gross and Jerome Kersey.

Monday’s golf outing was preceded by a dinner, silent auction and concert on Sunday night that featured a number of big names, starting with Thayer, the lead guitarist for legendary rock group KISS.

Thayer was joined on stage by Don Felder, lead guitarist for the Eagles; Robbie Krieger, guitarist and founding member of the Doors; Danny Seraphine, the original drummer for Chicago; plus Jack Blades and Kelly Keagy, two members of ‘80s rock group Night Ranger.
