Ivan Mojica-Flores was Forest Grove’s only individual champion at the tournament, hammering Jeremy Olsen of Beaverton 20-8 in the 126-pound finals on Saturday.

Mojica was dominant in the finals, scoring a reversal and three nearfall points in the first period, then building his lead to 13-3 by the end of the second period. The rest was academic, with the senior scoring eight points in the final period to cap an impressive weekend.

Matthew Johnson nearly captured a second title for the Vikings, but the freshman dropped a tough 7-6 decision to North Salem’s Raymond Smith in the 113-pound finals.

Chad Smith was the only other Viking to wrestle his way into the finals on Saturday, but he was overpowered by Century’s Amari Sengsavnh, who won the 132-pound title by pinning Smith at the 4:52 mark of the third period.

Forest Grove had two other wrestlers win their consolation bouts to claim third place, and a total of 10 Vikings finished fifth or higher at the tournament.

Christian Guerra wrapped up third place at 106 pounds by pinning Century’s Eddie Baltazar with 4:21 remaining in the third period of their consolation final on Saturday, and Catarino Rodriguez clinched third place at 220 pounds with a second-period pin of Beaverton’s Ryland Boyer.

Three other Forest Grove wrestlers made it to the consolation finals.

Jake Kemper lost a tough 10-8 decision to Joseph Larimer of Rex Putnam in the 145-pound consolation match. Mariano Calderon finished fifth at 152 pounds with a pin of Parkrose’s Manuel Hernandez, and Jake LeBrun pinned South Albany’s Nick Smith to capture fifth place at 170 pounds.

The sum of those performances was 162.5 points for the Vikings, which put them just one point behind North Salem for third place at the tournament. Century ran away with the team title, crowning six individual champions and adding three runner-up finishes to score 252 points. Sunset finished second with 170.5 points.

Josh Reyes of Parkrose was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler after capturing a 145-pound title with a 23-8 thrashing of Century’s Ryley Bilderbeck in the finals.
