Former Brave headed to NCAAs
The Portland State softball team is back in the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year, and this years squad includes a Banks alumna in freshman Melissa Masters.
The Vikings are scheduled to open their regional at 6 p.m. on Friday against Washington, the tournaments overall No. 11 seed and host of the regional in Seattle. Minnesota and Hawaii are the other teams in the regional which runs through Sunday and will play at 3:30 p.m. Portland State (25-29) went 3-0 last weekend at the Big Sky Softball Tournament in Pocatello, Idaho, to advance to the NCAA tournament.
Masters graduated from Banks in 2012, when she pitched the Braves to the state championship in the Class 4A title game, a 2-0 victory against Cascade. This year, she has appeared in 23 games and started seven for the Vikings.
