Forest Grove junior wins Class 6A state golf championship with dramatic comeback
With her third consecutive Pacific Conference golf championship already in the books, Forest Grove junior Hannah Swanson went out and added a Class 6A state title to her burgeoning trophy case.
Swanson chased down tournament leader Gigi Stoll on the back nine at Quail Valley Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon with a blistering closing stretch that included three birdies and an eagle, overtaking Stoll and winning her first state championship by one stroke.
Swanson shot a 5-under par 67 on Tuesday to go with a 1-over 73 on the first day of the tournament, giving her a two-day total of 140. Stoll shot a 4-under 68 on Tuesday and finished the tournament at 141.
Im still kind of shocked, Swanson said after her final round. Maybe tomorrow it will finally settle in.
Swansons round ended just before the News-Times went to press on Tuesday. Check back next week for a more in-depth story about her historic victory.
