Gaston softball opens playoffs against Riddle

The Class 2A state playoffs will begin this week for the Gaston softball team, while the Gaston baseball team missed out on a postseason berth by the narrowest of margins.

For the second straight season, the Gaston baseball team was one win away from a state playoff berth.

The Hounds went 13-11 (11-7 league)during the regular season and finished third in the final standings, forcing them into a two-game league playoff for a spot in the Class 2A bracket.

Gaston beat fourth-place Nestucca 12-1 last Thursday at Chuck Bafaro Stadium but lost 1-0 to second-place Portland Christian on Friday with a state playoff berth on the line.
