Sunset Speedway hosts another exciting night of racing

Collen Winebarger secures his fifth win in the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series

Sunset Speedway Park had a smooth night of dirt track racing on Saturday, with the Banks quarter-mile bullring featuring four exciting classes on the card.

Collen Winebarger was back to his winning ways in the Northwest Extreme Late Model Series. Winebarger, of Corbett, took full advantage of his front row starting position and led the entire distance.

The victory marked Winebarger’s fifth win of the series and his third at Sunset Speedway Park.

Chris Hallberg, of Sandy, became the newest winner in the IMCA Modified division. Once Hallberg’s No. 1 machine was out in front, he was off and running. Hallberg became the sixth different winner in as many races in that classification this year at Sunset.

Back in victory lane for the third time this season was Craig Loomis in the Street Stocks. The Vancouver, Wash., native has been absent from the winner’s circle since the early goings of the season.

Only a few cautions took place in the Street Stock event, and by lap six Loomis was in the lead and he would not look back. He is now tied for most wins in the class so far this season.

It was no surprise that Freya Smith was the winner of the Women’s race. Performing another clean sweep of events, the McMinnville driver had no issues all night long.

Seizing the lead around the halfway mark, Smith raced to victory in her No. 37 Camara, giving her a perfect seven wins in seven starts this year.

Coming up this Saturday night will be the return of the Dancin’ Bare Topless 100. Classes on the card will include the IMCA Modifieds, Northwest Extreme Sprints, Midgets and 4-Bees.
